President: Rev. Dr. Gnana Robinson

Prof. Rev. Dr. Gnana Robinson, B.Sc., B.D., M.Th., S.T.M., Dr. Theol. is a well-known theologian born and bought up in Gnanapuram, Kanyakumari District. He was educated in Eranial High School and Scott Christian College, Nagercoil. He did his Bachelor of Divinity degree and Masters of Theology degree at the United Theological College, Bangalore between 1957-1963. He was ordained in the Church of South India and served as a pastor in the Kanyakumari Diocese from 1960-61. He did further post graduate studies in the field of Old Testament at the Union Theological Seminary, New York leading towards his STM degree. He continued his post-graduate work at Ecumenical Institute in Israel and at Hamburg University, Germany, and earned his Doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 1975. He has served for more than forty years as Professor in Theology in several institutions, both in India and abroad. Dr. Gnana Robinson has authored several books and articles in Tamil, English and German.

As a Theological   teacher, he served at the Tamil Nadu Theological College, Thirumaraiyur from 1963-69 and at the Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai from 1969-1987. He has been the Principal of the Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai for nine years. During 1987-1993, he was teaching at the Prediger Seminar in Soest, Westfalen, West Germany as Guest Professor. In June 1993 he took over as the Principal of United Theological College, Bangalore for seven years, all the three institutions training Pastors/Priests to serve the church. Twice he has been elected as the President of the only Theological University in India known as the Senate of Serampore College (University).

He has been visiting professor at the University of Hamburg April – August 1982, and at the St. Andrews Theological College, Trinidad West Indies – October 1982 – March 1983, at Andover Newton Theological College, Boston, U.S.A. – April 1983, at Lincoln Theological College, U.K. – May 1983, and at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia (L.T.S.P.), U.S.A. – 2000-2001.

He is committed to the cause of the poor and the marginalized and, as such he is heading several service organizations as president. He is the Founder President of Peace Trust Kanyakumari. He is the President of Bullock cart Workers’ Development Association (BWDA), Peoples Association for Social Action (PASA),
Center for Rural Education and Employment for Development (CREED).

He is also committed to Communal Harmony among the people of different faiths. For this cause he founded Peace Trust Kanyakumari in 1985, with like minded people from different religions, a Programme Committee has been constituted which promotes Communal Harmony in the region. Under Peace Trust, In order to help the international community, which is increasingly becoming multi-religious, he has also started the Center for Interfaith, Relations, Studies and Joint Action (CIRSJA). He is also convening statewide conventions on communal harmony in all the States of India. He is also the Promoter of Iniavar Illam (INIL) A home for the Elderly, which comes under Peace Trust.

Vice-President: Mrs. Indhra Ramasamy

Born on 5th June 1948 Mrs. Indhra Ramasamy was educated in Tirunelveli and Chennai. She obtained Post Graduate Degrees in Economics, Sociology and Social Work.

She has put in 7 years service mainly developmental under HRD Ministry in Family and Child Welfare Training Centre at Gandhigram. She served as the Principal of Indian Council for Child Welfare Training Institute in Women and Child Wing under HRD Ministry for 25 years. She worked as Project Manager organizing programmes for 13 projects in Central, State and Non Governmental Organisations for 5 years.

After retirement, her service continues and she is implementing developmental activities for about 400 School children. She is also the Vice President of Rural Uplift Centre. She takes up Guest lectures for HRD curriculum in different Polytechnics and value education programmes for adolescent groups. To attach herself more with the society she remains a member of Tirunelveli Central Lions Club after serving as Treasurer for one term.

She has been closely involved with BWDA for more than a decade. She was a board member before becoming the Vice President in October 2013.

Treasurer: Mr. Rallyn P.George

Mr. Rallyn is a Capital Market Analyst. He was educated in meritorious institutions like Campion Hr.Sec School in Trichy and Loyola College in Chennai.

He was born with a silver spoon but because of his father’s service and involvement with the poor and mediocre level people, he was able to understand the state of the downtrodden people in the society and volunteered to join BWDA to further poverty alleviation. He has played a major role in strengthening BWDA Finance Limited with his vast experience. He was a board member of before becoming the Treasurer of BWDA in September 2009.

Committee Member: Rev. Mrs. Florence Robinson

Rev. Mrs. Florence was born to a very spiritual family in Chavarai, Kerela. She worked as a science teacher and a Headmistress of a Middle School in Madurai. For eleven years she worked for the cause of girls and women affected by trafficking. She was the Honorary General Secratry of ‘Arulagam’, a home for the rehabilitation of trafficked girls.

She undertook Theological Studies and the CSI Madurai Ramnad Diocese ordained her to priesthood recognizing her contributions to the church and society. She has rendered pastoral care and concern to the entire community.

She has been a well wisher and supporter of the poverty alleviation initiatives of BWDA. She has been a part of the BWDA board and has contributed considerably for the growth of the organisation.

Committee Member: Alphina Jos

Alphina Jos is the Deputy CEO of BWDA Finance Limited. She holds a Bachelor of Technology – Information Technology with Masters in Business Administration from VIT University, Vellore, India. Alphina was an Associate Business Analyst at Precision Techconet, Chennai where she was responsible for analysing business process of organisations, customising Microsoft Dynamics Navision to suit client requirements and implementing and training the clients.

She worked in MicroSave’s E/M-Banking/ Product Development practice group and has worked extensively with MFIs and financial institutions in India and Sri Lanka. Her work focused on E/M – Banking through the Business Correspondent Model, Community Based Organisations and Sector Studies on Financial Inclusion. Her work included strategic planning for community based organisations and institutions venturing into business correspondent space, product development, institutional assessment, organisational strengthening, systems design and qualitative market research to understand customer needs and sector scenarios.

Alphina has been associated with the BWDA Group in various roles for more than seven years. She was an independent Director of BWDA Finance Limited for three years before she became the Deputy CEO of BFL.

Committee Member: Mr. John Kannaiyan

Mr. John Kannaiyan is a registered Homeo Medical Practitioner who is a veteran social worker and has 27 of years experience in serving the vulnerable sections of the society. He finished his RHMP in Tamil Nadu Homeo Medical Council, Chennai and practised Homeo Medicine in Vadalur for 22 years.

He started the Social Service Society in 1987 to alleviate poverty, promote sustainable livelihood and cater to the needs of the neglected like orphans, widows, differently-abled persons, persons living with HIV (PLHAs) and poor SHG women. He has been the Secretary of Social Service Society for 26 years.

He has good experience in implementing health programmes like ISM, Herbal medicine awareness, Adolescent girls trainings, Water & Sanitation, HIV and TB prevention awareness etc. He was recruited to be a part of the BWDA Health Initiative as a Health Instructor in 2011 and has been supporting our programmes and projects.

Committee Member: Mr. Emil Jebasingh

Born to teacher parents in Kanyakumari District and Mr.Emil was educated in Kanyakumari District. Even from young age he was involved in Church activities and developed a feeling to help people in trouble and need. In 2004 tsunami, which rocked Kanyakumari District, he actively involved in relief and rehabilitation services with a rescue team in Colachel.

He worked with youth and children in and around his home town inculcating moral values and a sense of responsibility for the society. He holds position in the board of various Diocesan and Colleges. He actively worked for the growth and development of BWDA Educational Institutions liaising with Matriculation Board, University and AICTE. His contribution is worth mentioning.

Committee Member: Mr. Rajagopal

Mr. Rajagopal was born in 1955. He has been part of the BWDA family since 1999. He joined BWDA as a District Coordinator and later became an AGM. His contribution to the organisation and in turn to the society has been commendable. He was inducted to the BWDA board in October 2013. Before joining BWDA he worked as a Marketing Executive in E.I.D Parry Private Ltd.
