BWDA Environment Protection Programme
Health empowerment and healthy living of the people through environmental protection and promotion is BWDA’s prime objective. To achieve this objective, BWDA conducts various awareness programmes and environment and natural resource protection projects.
Afforestation & National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) Programme: BWDA promotes afforestation programme through our colleges (BWDA Arts & Science College and BWDA Polytechnic College) with the support of forest department and CPR Foundation. BWDA conducts the ‘National Environmental Awareness Campaign Programme (NEAC) every year for school and college students and community with the support of Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi and the CPR Foundation, Chennai.
Global Warming: This issue was taken up and in the programme in Madurai hosted by Mr.Y.David from July 22nd to 24th 2011, bullock carts went on a rally promoting a pollution fee environment with banners and notable slogans. Many bullock-cart associations and SHG members in Tamil Nadu joined together to make this programme successful.
Organic Farming: BWDA facilitated organic farming in our own land at Chennai. Awareness was created through SHGs in their group meeting and block level co-ordination meetings
BWDA Animal Welfare Service
To safeguard the welfare of cattle and other milch animals, BWDA conducts free veterinary camps in adopted rural areas with the support of BWDA SHGs and Government veterinary departments. Awareness camps on animal welfare are also conducted simultaneously during the veterinary camps. Free veterinary camps and animal awareness camps were conducted in the Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Tirunelveli districts and 1,96,950 animals like cows, bullocks, buffaloes, hens etc. of the SHG members and bullock-carters were treated. BWDA is planning to start a “Gowsala” in Chengamedu, Villupuram Dt with the support of Animal Welfare Board of India.
